Homeschooling is legal according to California law and all states in America, but it is still being challenged in many different ways. Oftentimes it comes under the guise of medical neglect, as with the case cited above. If you are a single parent currently homeschooling, or planning to do so, it is important to join HSLDA. They can be very helpful in answering legal questions, helping you get your child's school records when leaving public education, or if you should have a legal problem that needs addressing they are there. When you join, your fee becomes part of a larger pool of resources which helps meet the legal costs of other members like Vanessa and her children (story above). It costs $100 for the whole school year. You can pay this in monthly installments of $10, or make a one-time payment.
Vanessa Wilson was awarded $700,000 from CPS. You can read more about it here.
