According to the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers aka PARCC is "a consortium of 26 members states that has received $170 million in federal education dollars to craft standardized assessments that align with the Common Core State Standards." Now although most of what public schools do typically does not affect or apply to homeschoolers, this Common Core business actually is an exception to this. So we all should be concerned and should learn all we can about it.
Furthermore, many of us (homeschoolers) are currently enrolled in public school charter programs. Even though you are doing school at home, it is still public education and Common Core directly affects your children. If your children are enrolled in one of the public school independent study programs, depending upon what state you live in, you will need to opt out of the testing, if that is your choice. To learn more about PARCC and opting out of testing, watch this short, powerful video. The United Opt Out movement and video were launched in New Jersey, but PARCC testing is a nationwide assessment that many states have signed on to implement.
